Chinese Destiny Compass
Chinese Zodiac, Five Elements & a personalized destiny profile — enter your birth date to begin.
Chinese astrology reads your birth year through two lenses at once: a zodiac animal (a 12-year cycle — Rat, Ox, Tiger, and so on) and a Five Element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water, on a 10-year stem cycle). Together they form 60 possible combinations, each with its own personality temperament, strengths and natural tendencies. Enter your birth date above and this tool will calculate both precisely — correctly accounting for the Chinese New Year boundary, so a January or February birthday won't be misclassified the way a simple "birth year lookup" often gets wrong.
This is a general interpretive profile, not financial advice. Consult a licensed financial advisor for decisions about money.
Chinese astrology has multiple traditions and schools of interpretation. This calculator provides educational and entertainment-based interpretations using traditional Chinese Zodiac and Five Elements associations. It is not professional financial, medical, legal or relationship advice.
Answers to the most common questions about how the Chinese Destiny Compass works and how to get the most out of it.
How is my Chinese zodiac animal actually calculated?
From your date of birth, this tool determines which Chinese lunar year you were born in — not simply your Gregorian birth year. It computes the exact date of Chinese New Year for the relevant years using an astronomical calculation (based on real new-moon and winter-solstice timing), then checks whether your birthday falls before or after that date to assign the correct lunar year, animal and element.
Why does it matter if I was born in January or February?
Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year, usually between January 21 and February 20. If you were born before that date in a given year, you actually belong to the previous lunar year's zodiac sign — a detail many simple zodiac calculators get wrong by just mapping Gregorian birth year to animal. This tool accounts for that boundary precisely.
What's the difference between my zodiac animal and my Five Element?
Your zodiac animal comes from a 12-year cycle (Rat through Pig), while your Five Element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water) comes from a separate 10-year cycle. Combined, they create 60 unique year-types — for example a "Fire Tiger" and a "Water Tiger" share Tiger traits but express them differently. This tool calculates and blends both for your profile.
Is this the same as a full BaZi (Four Pillars) reading?
No. A full BaZi chart maps four pillars (year, month, day and hour) using the Day Master, Ten Gods, hidden stems and other advanced concepts. This tool only calculates your birth-year animal and element — a lighter, more accessible entry point into Chinese astrology, clearly labelled throughout as birth-year interpretation rather than a complete BaZi analysis.
Are the Destiny Scores random?
No — they're generated by a consistent, repeatable formula based on your zodiac profile and the date, not randomly. Submitting the same birth date on the same day will always produce the same scores. They're clearly labelled as interpretive energy scores, not fixed predictions.
Can I check compatibility with a partner, friend or family member?
Yes — run the tool once for your own birth date to see your compatibility wheel and top/challenging matches, then run it again with the other person's birth date to compare. Use "Reset & Start Over" between entries to keep results clear.
Is my birth information stored or shared anywhere?
Your date of birth, birth time and birthplace stay in your browser only and are used solely to calculate your results locally — they are never sent anywhere. If you provide your name and/or email, this site may save those (along with your zodiac result) so the site owner has a record of who used this tool — nothing else about your birth details is included in that record. Nothing is stored in browser storage, and your information is not shared with third parties.
Can I save or share my results?
Yes — scroll to "Save & Send Your Report" after generating your profile to download a PDF, email the report to yourself, or use the share card to copy/share a short summary.
How is this different from Western (sun-sign) astrology?
Western astrology is based on the sun's position among the constellations at your birth and typically changes sign monthly. Chinese astrology is based on the lunar calendar year (and, in fuller traditions, month, day and hour) and changes sign yearly. They're separate systems with different origins, methods and symbolism.
